Abstract

This work is the attempt to compare as precisely as possible two Old English translations done in King Alfred's time: that of Orosius' Historiarum adversus Paganos and that of Bede's Historia Ecclesiastica Gentis Anglorum and to see if, behind the differences, general guiding principles were used to carry out the Old English versions of these two ecclesiastical and historical texts.
