Abstract
The complex OH-stretching vibrational Raman profile of 2-propanol in the gas phase is analysed by means of a model calculation based on the intramolecular interaction between the stretching vibrational and torsional motions of the OH group. The model shows that vibrational transitions in torsionally excited states contribute substantially to the band shape and that the trans-gauche frequency sequence is reversed compared with ethanol and ethanethiol.
