Abstract

The paper describes the species of Oertlispongidae (Spumellarian Radiolaria) found in an exotic block embedded in the uppermost Maastrichtian of the Fayah Unit (Masirah Island, Oman). This block was dated as Fassanian-Cordevolian on the basis of poorly preserved radiolarians. The Oertlispongidae are exclusively represented by remains of main spines belonging to 6 genera and 11 species, among which two species ( Baumgartneria ambigua and B. omanensis) are new. The former species is transitional between the genera Oertlispongus Dumitrica, Kozur and Mostler and Baumgartneria Dumitrica, while the latter seems transitional between Baumgartneria and some Scutispongus Kozur and Mostler.
