Abstract

Abstract Disseminated fine-grained pentlandite in ultrabasic rocks and in serpentinite has a wider distribution in the older rocks of the South Island of New Zealand than has previously been reported. The higher nickel values appear to exist in pyroxenite rather than in peridotite. Massive aggregates of pyrrohotite and pyrite with coarsegrained pentlandite are, by contrast, associated with intermediate igneous rock.Secondary garnierite, connarite, and annabergite have been recognised in talc-magnesite and Haupiri conglomerate close to igneous rocks.
