Abstract

The calculation of scattering by random rough surfaces has recently received much interest. Exact integral equations, usually based upon a coordinate-coordinate Helmholtz integral formulation, are solved numerically and the ensemble scattered field calculated by Monte Carlo methods. Currently, such techniques are limited to surfaces rough in one dimension only. Here, an alternative approach to these calculations is described. This is based upon a mixed spectral-coordinate integral equation and the use of appropriate expansions of the surface fields. The extension of this approach to two-dimensional rough surfaces will also be discussed.
