Abstract

SummaryThe nucleoli of nineteen species from thirteen genera of desmids have been investigated, and in these, four main types of nucleolar structure have been found. The activity of the nucleoli during mitosis and the presence of nucleolar‐organizing chromosomes is described. The presence of a substance resembling Geitler's ‘nucleolar substance’ in Spirogyra is recorded.
