Abstract

Literature has always served as an important source that widely reflects the social changes at all levels. Contemporary literature like novels are no exception to this phenomenon. This paper seeks to explore the social progress and changes experienced by marginalised sections of the society such as deva dasis, widows. destitute women, transgenders and tribal people with reference to the selected novels. An attempt has been made to unfurl how education aids deva dasis and widows to attain progress in their lives, how destitute women stand on their own and live independently, as well as the social progress in the lives of tribals and the growing social acceptance of transgenders in our society.
