Abstract
A better understanding of the magnetic properties of ternary oxides such as BaRuO3 and of metal–metal interactions might be offered by complex 3 and the two other new compounds 1 and 2. These compounds were synthesized as PF6 salts. Blue 1 can be oxidized to green 3 via 2 (yellow). Compounds 1 and 3 contain short Ru-Ru bonds. Compound 3 can be converted electrochemically into the mixed valence RuIVRuv and RuIIIRuIV complexes. In 3, two unpaired electrons are present per formula unit (L = N,N′,N″-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane).
