Abstract

The normalization constant in DWBA theory of ( 3He, α) pick-up reactions is evaluated in zero-range and local-energy approximations with the aid of realistic 3He and α-particle wave functions and a spin-dependent nucleon-nucleon interaction. The 3He ground state wave function includes a state of mixed symmetry, which we find to have little effect on N( 3 He, α) , in sharp contrast to the results of our recent ( 3He, d) and ( 3H, d) calculations. We cite evidence in support of the direct method of finding N and against Bassel's method of invoking the Schrödinger equations of the few-nucleon systems.
