Abstract

The much higher nonwhite than white female labor force rate is explained in part by age differences but to a negligible degree by marital status, family size, and husband's employment and occupation. More important, however, appear to be the differences in the relationship between these variables and labor force participation for the nonwhite population as compared with the white.
