Abstract
Exact numerical results for the 1D extended Hubbard model with a quarter-filled band on chains of 8 and 12 atoms are presented. In the range V>>4t and U<4t a new maximum in the charge-density wave correlation function is observed. In the limit V= infinity the presence of a weak non-4kF CDW instability is demonstrated by analytic solution.
