Abstract

We proposed to interpret the fine structure of the no-phonon luminescence at 0.84 eV in GaAs : Cr as arising from transitions at a substitutionnal Cr 2+ ion on Ga site submitted to a perturbation of C 3v symmetry that is completly quenched in the ground set of states (1). Calculations of the effect of deviations from this assumption supports this model. We also show that it gives a satisfying prediction of the splitting under magnetic field and unaxial stress.
