Abstract

The NMR spin echo investigations in the range 10–700 MHz taken at 4.2 K for Nd 2Co 14B and Y 2Co 14B are presented and discussed. The 10B, 11B, 59Co, 89Y and 145Nd resonance line positions, echo decay oscillations and relaxations are determined. A large quadrupolar splitting of the boron lines is found. The easy direction of magnetization of Nd 2Co 14B is postulated to be 〈102〉 from an analysis of the 11B NMR lines. The yttrium hyperfine fields in Y 2Co 14B are higher than in Y-Co compounds. The hyperfine field of neodymium in Nd 2Co 14B is almost the same as for Nd 2Co 17 but the quadrupolar splitting is an order of magnitude smaller. All the measurements point to the importance of boron atoms in determining the hyperfine fields in these compounds.
