Abstract

A source of 6·13 MeV gamma photons has been designed in the form of a disc having a diameter of 80 cm and a surface activity uniform to ±10%. The photons arise from 16N in the cooling water, activated in the core of the Liverpool and Manchester Universities Research Reactor. The surface exposure rate is in excess of 2 R/hr and a programme of shielding and dosimetry studies is outlined.
