Abstract

The Woman Warrior sets in motion debates on the issue of authenticity and on who can speak on behalf of whom. Who is entitled to speak for the Chinese culture in the United States? Does one have to know China enough before writing on China? How much knowledge is enough? In studies of the images and imagination of one country in another country, these are persistent questions.
