Abstract

Ensuring that feeding practices are current and evidence based is a fundamental role of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nutritionist. This includes proposing, implementing, and evaluating change in feeding practices when indicated. This article discusses the steps taken to change feeding practices to increase protein intake of very-low-birth-weight infants in a large NICU in a short period of time. The evaluation plan is also discussed.
