Abstract

There is much in The Lancet's Editorial (Aug 13, p 542)1 on England's National Programme for Information Technology (NPfIT) in the National Health Service (NHS) that it is difficult to argue with. Our assessment of the implementation of NHS electronic health records revealed the problems faced by hospitals in implementing NPfIT systems which, more often than not, failed to benefit clinicians or patients.2,3
