Abstract

In 2017, the nursing department at NYU Langone Tisch Hospital began the process developing a strategic plan of restructuring and modernizing the existing long-standing Clinical Ladder Model from a manager-led model to a peer-led process. Our goals were to demonstrate nursing excellence as a Magnet®-designated organization, increase nurse empowerment, increase staff engagement, promote professional growth, and increase rates of promotion with a clear, objective, and streamlined process. The methodology for our LEAN Six Sigma approach to this process was outlined in our previous article. This report focuses on the initial phase of implementation that commenced in January of 2018. We discuss programmatic changes of the newly structured and evolving model incorporating promotion data and both participant and committee member feedback.
