Abstract
The advances of computer hardware and software during the past decade place new demands on preservice and inservice preparation of teachers. Current programs do not meet teachers needs in most states. Teachers in the next decade will need to become more learner oriented, and less teacher centered, to make effective use of these technological advances. Specifically, preservice and inservice education should focus on helping teachers to organize interactive/cooperative learning environments that make use of multi-sensory instruction delivered via computer. The integration of computer hardware and software into regular classroom instruction is more dependent upon significant modification of teacher instructional behavior than their level of sophistication with computer technology.
