Abstract

Goran Therborn is professor emeritus of sociolog y at the University of Cambridge, a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK), Dr. h.c. at UNED (Madrid) and at three Nordic universities. He has worked on all the populated continents of the world, and before Cambridge he was co-Director of the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study in the Social Sciences. His publications have appeared in at least 24 languages, including Italian, and comprise more than thirty books and many articles. His recent major publications include: Cities and Power, a guest-edited special issue of the International Journal of Urban Sciences (19:1, March 2015); The Killing Fields of Inequality (Polity, 2013); Le societa d’Europa nel nuovo millennio,il Mulino (2011); The World. A Beginner’s Guide (Polity, 2011); From Marxism to Post-Marxism? (Verso, 2008); Between Sex and Power. Family in the World, 1900-2000 (Routledge, 2004). Currently he is writing a conclusion of his urban studies, Cities of Power (Verso, forthcoming). He now lives in Sweden.
