Abstract

•. Revised regulations regarding the protection from ionising radiation of workers (Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999) and patients (Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000) have been introduced in 2000. •. The legislation represents a welcome attempt to enshrine in law the principles of good radiological and radiographic practice. •. Departments of Clinical Radiology have little to fear from the new regulations, but a considerable amount of work, and close liaison with clinicians, will be required to achieve the aims of the legislators and to demonstrate compliance to the inspectors.
