Abstract

Using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), almost all geotechnical conditions and required geometries for underground structures are built in a safe and economic way. In order to achieve the required safety level, both a systematic geotechnical design but also a fair contractual model for all involved partners have to be implemented into the design and construction process. Using the latest standards of NATM internationally, essential new principles, which were developed within the last few years, are given in this paper.
