Abstract

Every society is in a state of transition-this is what makes the substance of History. But in the last few decades or so, Africa has undergone such a tremendous process of change and acquired such energy of intentions and purpose that the contrast to the long period of imposed stagnation that preceded this change appears overwhelming, and the African transition a palpable reality. We are today living in an age of great excitement, with many tasks falling to us, and many vistas opening out to us-in a revolutionary age.
