Abstract

In 1999, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) endorsed new ACGME general competencies for residents and residency programs based on the ACGME Outcome Project. Upon review of the new general competencies by the library and research directors at Easton Hospital, it was discovered that many of the existing interactions between the library and the residency programs at Easton Hospital already assisted the residency program directors with meeting many of the new competencies. This author details the hospital library response to the challenge of the ACGME competencies and how the library and research curricula were modified to further support the competencies.
