Methods The year of life lost (YLL) , year lived with disability (YLD) and disability adjusted life year (DALY) of neuropsychiatric disease were calculated by using the retrospective sampling survey data of death cause from 2007 to 2009 and the data of death cause surveillance from 2010 to 2012 in Yantai city. The indirect economic cost was calculated according to the human capital approach to evaluate their change trend. Results From 2007 to 2013, the interval of DALY caused by neuropsychiatric disease was 17.71/10 000-18.99/10 000 person-year, of which mainly was YLD (94.80%-96.18%) , with more females than males (P all <0.05) and with the biggest proportion in the age group of 15-44 years old. DALY rate and Standardized DALY rate were increasing year by year. The excessive alcohol disorder had the highest DALY rate interval of 3.57/1 000-3.61/1 000 person-year and the DALY rate of bipolar disorder had the largest increase (χ2trend=28 691.85, P<0.05) . The indirect economic cost interval was 3.927-9.328 billion yuan from 2007 to 2013 and drank alcohol was the most important risk factor of the neuropsychiatric disease burden and the indirect economic cost.
