Abstract

On January 1, 1976 four University Hospitals in The Netherlands started a cooperative study to evaluate the effects of coronary bypass surgery on left ventricular function. This study, The Netherlands Coronary Surgery Study (N.C.S.) is supported by the Dutch Government and is carried out within the framework of The Netherlands Interuniversity Cardiology Institute. The main goal is the analysis of cardiac function after coronary bypass surgery in patients with coronary artery disease. Various other aspects of coronary bypass surgery (mortality, morbidity, complication rates and subjective results) are also evaluated.
