Abstract

This book is one of the latest of the numerous paperback texts of neurophysiology to be published in recent years, and in some important respects, it is the best of them for its intended audience. The book was developed in part from lectures for medical students given by the author at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. I would guess with some confidence that he is an excellent teacher. At the very least, it is obvious that he has genuine and serious respect for what it means to be a scholar and teacher. Like other texts of its kind, this one does not have the formal tone or the pretensions to encyclopedic range of the full-dress, multiauthored textbook of physiology. But the author is clearly at home with his subject, which, though it is presented in a personal and conversational way, receives a no-nonsense treatment, without sacrifice of detail
