Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper examines the 2021 higher education reform in Greece through the lens of neoliberalism. It examines how its basic provisions align with the neoliberal spirit and how this is defended through language. The paper also argues that this law confirms the role of the Greek state as a neoliberal, interventionist state in favour of specific interests. On this purpose, two basic parameters of neoliberalism are explored, the process of commercialisation of education and the process of exclusion from education, and the role of violence within neoliberalism. Finally, it imagines the possible outcomes of this law for Greek higher education.
