Abstract
An attempt is made to indicate the various positions of the boundary between the Tethyan and Boreal realms on ammonite distributions from the Berriasian to the Barremian inclusive. It appears that during the Berriasian there was a unique situation that the Tethyan Realm, based on the distribution of ammonites, constituted the whole of the world-ocean with the sole exception of a small Arctic Ocean basin. This boundary shifted markedly southwards during the Valanginian. During the Neocomian the Tethyan faunal realm can be divided into a Mediterranean Faunal Region and an East Pacific Faunal Region. It is still premature to divide these regions into faunal provinces; some are mentioned informally. The development of an Austral Province in the Hauterivian and Barremian is discussed.
