Abstract

The reader has every right to object to this title. One can write about negro slaves or negro slavery without going beyond the bounds of the possible. But anyone who alleges that he is conversant with ‘the negro slave’ claims more than historical research can ever justify. Even if it were possible to portray such a synthetic creature as the negro slave, one would hardly expect it to have sprung from the historical sources.
