Abstract

Al Jazeera launched its international English-language news channel, Al Jazeera English (AJE), on November 15, 2006. Originally called Aljazeera International and broadcast to more than 80 million households worldwide, the channel became the world’s first English-language international news network to originate in the Middle East. The network modeled itself on news organizations like BBC World and CNN International and worked to develop a global identity, rather than positioning itself as the English translation of its Arab sister network.KeywordsMiddle EastNews OrganizationCable OperatorCable CompanyAmerican AudienceThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
