Abstract

This essay is an extract from an unpublished piece of research undertaken by Lorraine Dixon. The author, a Black Anglican priest, has undertaken important work in the area of Black British Church history and outlines the historical context in which the abolitionist movement against slavery was conducted. Given the importance of 1807 as a marker for the ongoing process of Black existential freedom in Britain and her colonies, this essay is an apposite piece of work detailing the cultural and theological context that gave rise to the outlawing of the slave trade in Britain.
