Abstract

The reaction of neohexane on various supported Pt catalysts has been studied after different pretreatments. Very large changes in product distribution are observed, although the mode of adsorption of the neohexane is essentially unchanged. The Single TurnOver technique, using pulses of 1-butene, has been used in an attempt to determine the relative proportions of different sites on the Pt catalysts after the various pretreatments. It is found that the changes in neohexane selectivity cannot be accounted for by changes in the numbers of sites. Alternative explanations are considered.
