Abstract
This special issue is about how to make training more successful. It offers practical guidance and ways of thinking about the work of trainers that will lead to improved training and performance. It makes the assumption that trainers are still an important part of any organisational or economic activity. Although it may seem that this assumption is sometimes stretched in today's world economic, financial and political climate, it is still the case that trainers and training are much needed.
