To the Editor: Australian Aboriginal people have a very high prevalence of chronic ear disease. Although this condition rarely leads to surgical complications, we have studied it because of the effects of poor hearing on education. A survey was undertaken at the settlement of Woorabinda in central Queensland, Australia, to determine the prevalence of the disease in the community. The settlement had a population of 450.
