Abstract

The study carried out sought to analyze whether a campus of a federal public university in the Amazon Region, through its Student Assistance Program, has managed to combat dropout rates from its courses, as stated in one of the main objectives of the National Student Assistance Program – PNAES, set out in Decree n º 7.234 of July 19, 2010. Microsoft Office Excel software was used to carry out the study, in order to identify the profile of the beneficiary students and their course completion rates, based on two documents: The Report of students benefiting from student assistance, between the years 2016 to 2020 and the Report of dropout students who entered between the years 2012 to 2018. Furthermore, a Multiple Correspondence Analysis was carried out using the R software. study results indicate that the Student Assistance Program contributes to the reduction of school dropouts in courses on the studied campus, mainly in afternoon courses. It was found that improvements are possible with the adoption of measures aimed at encouraging students to complete the course, especially those in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability, such as expanding and increasing the value of student aid.
