Abstract
The well-known “Petersburg Album” kept in the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts (shelf-number E-14) is not the only muraqqaʿ in the St. Petersburg collections. Thus, the National Library of Russia house five Iranian albums with calligraphic samples and miniatures, of which one (Dorn 489) is outstanding due to both its contents and its provenance. In the present article we summarize the results of previously conducted research of the miniatures and calligraphy in the album that date from the 15th–18th centuries, while adding some codicological remarks on the volume and its covers. In addition, the as yet unclear history of the acquisition of this real masterpiece of art is unraveled and presented.
