Abstract
In a bid to stem the high and increasing inequalities in levels of tooth decay among pre-school children in England, a national campaign targeting child carers has been launched by the Health Education Authority for England (HEA). The research used by the HEA to promote the campaign was conducted in Salford and Manchester in the North West of England. A random sample of 762 children aged 3 years was examined in nurseries, playgroups and schools by three trained and calibrated examiners.
