Abstract

This study examined the necessary changes in the La Crosse Wellness Inventory (LWI) to assure its content validity as a wellness assessment instrument. It also investigated the necessary electronic configurations in the development of the LWI software. Following a comprehensive literature review and preliminary item revisions, 25 national jury members were asked to rate, and encouraged to comment on, the acceptability level of each statement regarding its ability to assess a person's level of wellness within the context of a particular wellness category. Following jurying, 80 statements were revised, 6 statements were eliminated, and 1 statement was added. The revised LWI was comprised of 178 items. A considerable number of changes was needed to revalidate the LWI and prepare an electronic version. The LWI software was constructed utilizing hypertext markup language (HTML) and Java code. The LWI software components included static web pages, the client-side applet, and the server-side application. Constructing the software required a sophisticated and flexible programming language. The revised LWI serves as the wellness assessment phase of the La Crosse Wellness Project.
