Abstract

The N400 event-related brain potential (ERP) response to meaningful stimuli is reduced for stimuli that are related versus unrelated to a preceding prime stimulus. This N400 semantic priming effect is thought to reflect greater activation of more related concepts in long-term semantic memory. This effect has been found to be attenuated in patients at clinical high risk (CHR) for psychosis. We tested the hypothesis that N400 semantic priming reductions would predict symptomatic and functional outcomes after one year in CHR patients.
