Abstract

This article studies how a media product resulting from a combination between melodrama and action series establishes a number of features connected with gender identity in El Señor de los cielos, as well as the representations related to what it means to be a man or a woman. The gender narratives of this so called “super series” explore the relation between gender and nature versus the social construction of masculinity and femininity, the capacities associated with human agency, and the situations described as a result of destiny.
