Abstract
The article discusses the characteristics of the interpretation of the myth of Don Juan in A. S. Pushkin’s play “The Stone Guest”, as well as the embodiment of Pushkin's play in M. A. Schweitzer’s 1978 film from the series “Little Tragedies”. The analysis of Pushkin’s text in the context of the development of the myth reveals its anti-romanticism, which sharply distinguishes it from its artistic and historical environment, in particular the poet's negative attitude towards the right to freedom of feeling proclaimed by the Romantics. These ideas are further developed in the film version of The Stone Guest, in which the musical sequence created by A.G. Schnittke plays an important role.
