Abstract

Herbert Bishop, principal of the Manhattan, Kansas, High School, and current chairman of the Activities Committee, North Central Association of College and Secondary Schools, appeared on a panel discussion at the MENC Southwestern Division convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in January 1960. His significant remarks printed here were compiled by Paul Strub, recorder for the session. The MENC has enjoyed a long period of close cooperation with the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. In April 1957 a highly important document was adopted by the North Central Association: “Guiding Principles and Recommendations for School Music Group Activities,” which was prepared by delegates from the North Central Association of College and Secondary Schools, the National Association of Secondary-School Principals, and the Music Educators National Conference. This publication continues to be an important guide for music educators in connection with activities of performing groups.
