Abstract

The observation of a muon electric dipole moment would provide an additional source of CP violation which is required to explain the matter anti-matter asymmetry in the universe. The current experimental limit, |d_mu| < 1.9 x 10^-19e,cm, was set by the BNL E821 experiment. This paper discusses how the new experiment at Fermilab, E989 [3], aims to decrease this by two orders of magnitude down to 10^-21e,cm.
