Abstract

A novel theory of droplet microemulsions is presented that is based on surface and small systems thermodynamics, and is formulated in terms of a large set of chemical complex equilibria which account for the size, shape and composition fluctuations. The fluctuation-caused polydispersity is shown to be of a rather limited relative magnitude but, nevertheless, it is of paramount importance when calculating the total volume fraction of microemulsion droplets.
