Abstract

Research has shown that Self-Concept is a multidimensional construct, hierarchically organised. It has been suggested that studies examining the relationship of Self-Concept with School-Achievement should employ measurements of the Academic rather than of the General Self-Concept. The Academic Self-Concept has also been shown to be a multidimensional (consisting of the dimensions of general School-Ability SelfConcept and several subject-specific Self-Concepts) and hierarchically organised (in terms of generality/specificity of the content dimensions) construct. In a study of Greek 8th grade pupils, the Multifaceted, Hierarchical Model of Academic Self-Concept was supported via successive Factor Analyses, but the hierarchical organisation was shown to differ from those obtained for pupils in other countries.
