Abstract

ABSTRACT The crustacean muscle is extremely sensitive to mechanical injury. This is due to the fact that the muscle fibres are innervated by a feltwork of nerve fibres which surrounds them. Appare?ntly, there is a lack of a muscular conduction process in these muscles. Contractions have been observed in the same muscle fibres during stimulation of the axon for the fast contraction as well as during stimulation of the fibre for the slow contraction.
