Abstract

Aim: The questionnaire e study is planned about the effects of supplementary food and the time that mothers start to use supplementary food. Methods: This experiment includes 159 mothers who have a 0-6 months baby. They are chosen from a Family Health Center. Data are totalized from Baby Feeding Attitude and a question form which was made through the literature. Findings:According to result of the study, 72 .3% mothers before giving birth, 57.4% mothers after giving birth, they remarked that they don’t have any knowledge about breast feeding and breast milk. Also,%84 %of them start feeding in first 30 minutes of baby. On the other hand, only 63.8 % of them feed their babies with breast milk and. 36.5% of the mothers switched to complementary food before completing their 6th month.When Baby Feeding Attitude is analyzed, mothers` total score average is found 62.55(more or less 5.39) (min 17, max 85). Results: In conclusion, mothers don’t have enough knowledge about breast feeding and breast milk. Besides, first period of giving birth most of mothersthem start feedingfeeding with breast milk. After that period, they give up feedingfeeding with breast milk. Breast feedingfeeding is not enough as it is wanted. Mothers are positive to feed their babies with breast milk if we look Baby Feeding Attitude. After and before giving birth if women are taught about breast milk and breastfeedingfeeding, it will contribute to continue feedingfeeding with breast milk and mothers will know better how to feed their babies.
