Abstract
Abstract This study uses a database derived from the Social Sciences Citation Index to rank legal periodicals according to their frequency of citation in scholarly literature. The 30 most‐cited general law reviews are listed by total citations and also by impact factor (average citations per article). The 30 most‐cited specialized legal periodicals are also listed by total citations and by impact factor. Among the general law reviews, Yale Law Journal places first by both measures, the first time that a law review other than Harvard Law Review has ranked first in a citation study. Among the specialized periodicals, Law and Human Behavior is first in total citations, reflecting the size of the psychological literature, and the Journal of Legal Studies first in impact factor.
