Abstract

This paper deals with the articulation facets and ligaments of the hyoid, the branchiostegal rays, the branchial basket and the shoulder girdle of an anatomically modal cichlid fish, Haplochromis elegans. It provides a basic description for comparative functional morphology and discusses the functional significance of the described structures for the range of positions these apparatuses may obtain within the head during movements.
